GEO in India: clear facts, useful answers and measurement

Generative engine optimisation, or GEO, describes work intended to make business information easier to understand and reference in AI-assisted search. It overlaps with useful content and established SEO. No markup, file or content format guarantees a recommendation or citation.
Start with search eligibility and useful pages
Check that important pages load, can be crawled, are not unintentionally excluded and explain the offer clearly. Google states that AI search features use existing SEO foundations; no special AI schema is required. Eligibility is not a guarantee of inclusion.
Answer the buyer’s question directly
- →Service pages: who it fits, what is included, indicative cost and next step.
- →Manufacturer pages: product specifications, applications, current certificates and RFQ information.
- →Exporter pages: real supply capability, relevant buyer-market information and verifiable documents.
- →Articles: a direct answer, worked explanation, reliable sources and links to related service scope.
Separate evidence from interpretation
Identify the author or technical reviewer when that person has actually reviewed the material. Name the data source and period for a result. Clearly label examples and estimates. Do not invent an approval, certification, customer story or causal revenue claim to make the page look authoritative.
Use structured data that matches visible facts
Organisation and person identifiers help describe who publishes the page. Service and article markup should reflect what a visitor can read. Schema helps interpretation; it does not manufacture trust or unlock an AI recommendation. Keep business details consistent across pages and verified profiles.
Make visibility checks reproducible
- →Keep a fixed sample of buyer questions and record the exact wording.
- →Log engine, date, region or language context and whether web search was used.
- →Record a brand mention separately from a linked citation.
- →Save the cited URL and check whether it supports the answer.
- →Repeat comparable checks and note answer variation rather than treating one response as a ranking.
A mention is not a customer
Use Search Console for observable Google performance and record enquiries through the website’s saved-lead path. AI mentions, citations, visits, qualified enquiries and sales are different measurements. Missing referral information remains unknown. Do not claim all AI-engine answers have been checked from a single automated test.
Prioritise before publishing more
Improve the pages tied to real buying questions first. Use your sales team’s objections and source-backed product information. Add new articles only when they answer a distinct question. Google’s people-first content guidance is a better foundation than repetitive AI-targeted pages.

Frequently asked questions
- Does GEO need special schema?
- Google says no special schema is required for its AI search features. Relevant structured data should match visible page facts. Technical eligibility and useful content matter, but do not guarantee inclusion.
- How should AI visibility be measured?
- Record exact prompts, engine, date and context. Distinguish brand mentions from linked citations and inspect the cited sources. Repeat comparable checks; one answer is not a stable ranking or a sales result.
